Speeches were given before clubs, associations, schools, and military organizations. Writings include Hayward's autobiography, draft of a book on naval innovators, articles on Navy and defense related topics. Naval orders include change of duty assignments and awards. Subject files include information on meetings, associations, conferences, and Navy and national defense topics. Personal and career photographs. Miscellany contains certificates, maps, pamphlets, and newspaper clippings.
